Plymouth Soccer Association
takes three state summer titles

By sending a record
13 teams to the Minnesota Youth Soccer Association Summer State
Tournament, Plymouth Soccer Association officials figured things
were going well.
And they ended up getting better.
PSA sent six teams to MYSA Summer State Tournament title games,
and came home with three state championships in all.
"We are very proud of our presence in the state tournament the
past few weeks," said PSA president Chad Kelly. "The 13 teams
were a high for any club, and to have six play for
championships, we are just extremely proud of them."
The three teams that ended up winning state championships were
the U13 CI Boys International, the U14 C1 Boys Blitz and the U15
C1 Girls Rage, and all three took those titles with one-goal
wins.
The International topped Bangu 2-1, the Blitz got by Edina 4-3
and the Rage beat St. Croix Valley 1-0.
The three teams that fell in the championship game also each
lost their respective games by a single goal.
The U11 C2 Boys Cosmos fell to Woodbury 7-6, the U12 C1 Girls
Storm lost 2-1 to Wings and the U16 C2 Girls Lyons was defeated
by Eagan 2-1.
Last year, PSA didn't win a single MYSA Summer State Tournament
championship, and Kelly noted the difference this year could be
the combination of the size of the association and the work its
players have put into their winter training.
"The club has been growing, and we have tremendous athletes in
the area, but we've also enhanced our winter training program,"
Kelly said. "It is among the best offered anywhere in the state,
and it is producing results for us on the field in the summer."

Congratulations to the C2 U13 PSA Girls on their 1st
place finish in the PSA Minnesota Classic!
The C2 U13 Girls team
finished the PSA Minnesota Classic (June 22-24) with
four victories against just one defeat to win the
inaugural PSA Minnesota Classic Soccer Tournament. The
PSA Strikers began the tournament with a thrilling 1-0
victory over Sting after scoring a goal in the 70th
minute. After a hard fought, 1-0 defeat to a solid
Owatonna team, PSA followed with 5-0 victories over
Champlin and the PSA Shooting Stars. The championship
game featured a rematch with Owatonna and a chance to
avenge PSA's only defeat of the tournament. After
battling Owatonna to a 2-2 tie through regulation
and overtime play, the game was decided in a shootout.
A PSA goal in the ninth round of the shootout coupled
with a miss by Owatonna secured the victory and the 1st
place trophy!

PSA Fury honored with Good Sportsmanship Award. The
boys U16C3 team played in the Cottage Grove Running with the
Wolves Tournament on May 12th and 13th
and came away with a trophy for Good Sportsmanship. The
team has undergone significant personnel change over the
winter and is now about half U15 and half U16 players.
They've been practicing together since February but the
tournament was the first time they've played in a
competitive situation as a group. There was no letting up
from the team during their games and they managed to raise
the eyebrows of their opponents. One opposing coach
commented on how well the team they played together
especially considering the lack of experience playing as a
team. Everyone gets along and the players have come
together as a unit in a very short time said their coach,
John Kalpin. Hopefully, we can translate that camaraderie
into wins this season.

Blaine Breakout tournament this past weekend. After
a hard fought 2-1 loss to Blaine in the first game, they played
very well in beating Centennial 5-1, then winning against
Hopkins 4-0 and finally beating Eagan 3-0 to get into the
championship. The championship was a rematch against Eagan and
once again International controlled much of the game for a 3-0
victory. It was an excellent start to the season for this newly
formed PSA team. |

Sportsmanship Award
for the U11 Boys Division at the
2007 West Des Moines Premier Games in April.

scorecard for each team at the conclusion of each game. Each

opponents, respect toward referees, and behavior. The
assessment criterion was based 50% on player's conduct, 30% on
coach's conduct, and 20% on spectator's conduct.
Players attending this tournament included: Harrison, Sam, Alex
A., Gio, Nick O., Alex M., Alec, Tyler, Mark, Nick R., Scott,
