PRACTICES
Q. What days and times are
involved in recreational practices and play?
A. All girls, regardless of age, will practice
and play on Monday and Wednesday evenings, either at 6:00 or 7:15. All boys,
regardless of age, will practice and play on Tuesday and Thursday evenings
at 6:00 or 7:15. Practices last about an hour, games 1 hour.
Q. I have a soccer field
near my house. Can my child play there?
A. PSA uses many soccer fields throughout the
city of Plymouth. Certain fields are designated for certain age groups. You
will know well in advance where your child is playing so you can make
adequate transportation plans. Many families carpool to meetings as well.
REGISTRATION
Q. How do I sign up my child
with a friend?
A. You MUST send in your
registration form with that of ONE
friend. Be sure to put the friend's name on the form in case both forms get
separated in processing. Each player must name the other.
If you send in with more than 1 friend, your
forms will be separated
Q. How do I know that you
received my registration?
A. Confirmation cards will be mailed out, but
not until registration is closed. Look for cards arriving about mid to late
March. Usually, your cancelled check is the best indicator of your
registration being received.
Q. Can I get on the
mailing list?
A. Our software allows us to generate mailing lists only from team
assignments from the past year. Once
you have signed up for PSA, you will be automatically included in the
mailing list since you would have been assigned to a team. It will be
up to you to get the sign-up information from one of our information
sources: The
web site, Plymouth Library (across from Cub), the Park and Rec Department of
City Hall, Sports Hut in Wayzata and the Wayzata Library.
TRAVEL
Q. I've heard of "Travel",
"Recreational" and "Rec Plus" soccer. What's the difference?
A. Recreational soccer is also called the
In-House league. PSA teams play only each other. Rec Plus steps up the
commitment, as well as the skill level. Rec and Rec Plus meet only 2 times
per week. Travel soccer requires greater commitment and involves competing
against neighboring communities like Eden Prairie, Maple Grove and Edina. A
season of Travel soccer could cost several hundred dollars for uniform and
entrance fees into regional tournaments. Rec Plus teams are scheduled for
additional skills sessions as well as the American Cup Tournament over 1
weekend in June.
COACHES
Q. I have never coached
before. What do I need to do or know before I can coach?
A. PSA offers various coaching clinics prior to
starting the season. Come to the PSA Open House to find out about the
coaching clinic that is just right for you. We always need more coaches.
Q. What happens at the
clinics?
A. Lots!!! Gain practical experience on drills,
skill demonstrations, and learn how to run the practices efficiently.
Handouts are available. Organized by the Minnesota Youth Soccer Association
and taught by professionals.
Q. What is the time
commitment, and will I have help?
A. There are usually 2 coaches assigned per
team which accommodates those parents who must travel for business. Each
team receives great coaching materials to help you be successful!. The
practices and games are only twice a week and last for 1 hour. The time goes
FAST~ Five and six year olds gather 15 times and everyone else meets 18
times. The first 5 - 6 times are practices. Play is completed by the end of
July.
Q. Can a friend and I coach
a team together?
A. Absolutely!! Let us know who you would like
to coach with and we will build a team around your and the other coaches
kids. LIMIT 2 COACHES PER TEAM!! WE
ALWAYS NEED COACHES!
REFEREES
Q. I am interested in
refereeing!! How do I sign up
A. Instructional courses are available and
certification is necessary. This is a great and good paying job for 12 to
18+ year olds. You can become certified for Recreational or Travel Soccer
games. Older teens and adults are used for Travel Games. Stop in at the Open
House! The Referee Director will sign you up and answer your questions. |
