Young Champions
2013 Summer Program
The Young Champions Program is a “Bridge” from the
Recreation Program to the more competitive Travel Program.
It is a year-round program for Boys and Girls in the U7 & U8
age groups ONLY.
The program is designed for the more experienced Recreation
Program player who has participated in multiple soccer
events. It is for players who are willing to make a greater
soccer commitment, want stronger competition, have a bigger
challenge and WILL play in the Travel Program
starting at the U9 age group.

Goals:

Develop players for the
Travel
Program
·
Provide year-round opportunities for future Travel Soccer players to improve
their soccer technique, skills and knowledge
·
Prepare players for the Travel Program tryouts, which are held in late July
·
Provide players with an individual assessment and future program
recommendation
Program
Events:
-
Middle
of May to the end of July
-
8-10
practice sessions, 10-12 games, (3) “Skills” sessions and a Jamboree (3
Mini-Games) during the PSA Tournament
Registration:
§
Opens January 1st and CLOSES on APRIL
15th. After April 15th, contact the PSA Office to
determine if there are any openings

Players
MUST
be in the U7 & U8 age group to participate in this program. See age
group birth-year guidelines below
Register online at the PSA Online Registration System (https://plymouthsoccer.cogran.com).
Use your User Name and Password to access the system. Once in the system,
please follow the instructions for the selected program

Any “play-with” request must be submitted in the “Special Requests” section
of the online registration by March 15th
Age
Groups:

U7: Birth dates from August 1, 2005 – July 31, 2006
·
U8: Birth dates from August 1, 2004 – July 31, 2005
Fee:
§
$224. Register by MARCH 15th and
receive a $25 discount = $199 fee

Uniform
is an additional cost ($50). You can order and size at the PSA Office
Play Days:
-
Monday &
Wednesday (Boys), Tuesday & Thursday (Girls)
-
Event
start times are either 6:00pm or 7:15pm and will vary throughout the
schedule
Location:
·
All practices and games are at the Wayzata West Middle School (4 fields
inside the track)
Teams:
-
Teams are formed for the U7 & U8 age groups, by gender. If there are not
enough players to form a minimum of 4 teams per age group/gender, age
groups will be combined to form the teams
-
Formed by gender and age group. “Play-with” request and school attended
will be considered
-
If a “Play-with’ request involves children of different age groups, the
child from the lower age group MUST play in the higher age group
Team
Coaches:
§
Teams have volunteer Coaches who are currently coaching in the Recreation,
Young Champions or Travel Programs
§
Have obtained the MYSA Youth License and have indicated a desire to coach in
the Travel Program
§
Coaches are expected to attend the MANDATORY kick-off meeting held in
the early May timeframe
§
New Coaches must attend the MANDATORY Youth License to be held in the
March timeframe (5:00pm-9:00pm)
PSA
Trainers:
·
Conduct all practice sessions, evaluate players,
train & support coaches and provide coach & player feedback
Uniform:
-
Players must wear the complete Adidas uniform for games. No names on the
back of the shirt
-
New players to the program can order and size their uniform at the PSA
Office. Cost is $50
-
For games, black shirts are worn by the designated “Home” team and white
shirts by the designated “Away” team
-
Uniforms will be distributed at the field during the first few practices
Practices/Games:
-
The full Adidas uniform must be worn for all games (Black shirt for the
“Home” team and white shirt for the “Away” team
-
Practices will be conducted by the PSA Trainers
-
All practices/games are outside. Players should dress appropriately for
the weather. Parents/Guardians should use their judgment on sending
their child to the event
-
All practices/games are played in bad weather, with the exception of
lightening or poor field conditions. Cancellations will be posted on the
PSA website and the PSA Weather Hotline. If your are uncertain, please
contact PSA or your Coach

No practices/games are scheduled for the week of July 4th
Jamboree:
-
All teams will be scheduled to participate in the Jamboree, which is
played during the annual PSA Tournament on Saturday June 15th
(approx. 9:00am-2:00pm)

Teams will play (3) Mini-Games of 2x12 minutes
Equipment:
IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTE:
-
A player must not use equipment or wear anything that is dangerous
to themselves or another player.
-
PLEASE
BE ADVISED PLAYERS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO WEAR ANY JEWELLRY/EARRINGS DURING
THE SOCCER GAMES
-
If a player has earrings, even newly-pierced, they must
be removed in order to play in the game-NO
EXCEPTIONS
-
Band-Aids or tape over the earrings is not allowed
-
Shin guards are
MANDATORY for ALL players and
must be completely covered by long
socks.
-
Soccer shoes (no toe-cleats) are recommended, but tennis shoes may be
worn
-
Please bring enough water/sport drink (approx. 2
quarts), in an appropriate/safe container, to all sessions.
-
If a child wears glasses, they should be secured with a
head-band.
Soccer Balls:
-
All players should bring a fully-inflated ball to each session.
-
Young Champions age groups use a size 3 ball.
Team Pictures:
-
Team pictures will be scheduled in early June (see schedule for date,
time & location)
-
Coaches will distribute team picture information, schedule and order
forms at the first few practices
